"A board isn't done when the schematic compiles. It's done when it boots, runs, and survives the room it lives in."

— Dean Kovacs · Layer One PCB

Craft in the copper.

Eight small decisions that separate a board that works from a board that lasts.

01

Teardrops on every joint.

Traces widen smoothly into pads and vias, forming a copper bulge that strengthens connections under flex and thermal stress.

02

Wide copper on power.

Generous copper on power traces lowers resistance, prevents voltage drop, and pulls heat away from where it shouldn't be.

03

RF integrity, by design.

Antennas isolated, impedance controlled, vias guarded. The radio works because the layout already agreed it would.

04

Decoupling, where it matters.

Capacitors at the IC's power pins act as a local energy reservoir — clean rails, stable silicon.

All eight principles
